Despite the winter weather's sharp return,we have spent January largely out and about, running workshops, photographing historic buildings and making field visits in and around our Eastern region. We hope you've also had a great start to 2012 and we look forward to hearing from you.

Design Review


In 2011, Shape East became part of the National Network of Affiliated Design Review Panels, supported by Design Council CABE. We are very pleased to be working with a great team of panel members to offer an independent, impartial design review of development schemes, as well as hands on design support for the Eastern Region. Page to Performance

Shape East supports:
Art on the Underground

Shape East support artists' Page to Performance took part in Word Motion, a public art exhibition in London's Underground, led by Smile for London. Smile for London inspired commuters during the bleakest month of the year with poems or prose of up to 40 words, transformed by leading motion artists into 20-second-typographic-films, screened across London Underground platform screens for two weeks.

Sustainable Swavesey

Shape East is delighted to be organising a series of school workshops as part of StartArts Green Screens Project. The project aims to develop the skills and understanding of the local community in sustainable and environmental building design. Shape East will be working with architect Sarah Morrison to run a programme of CAD design workshops with year 7 and 8 school groups.


Walking with Women

Shape East at the Folk Museum

As part of the 2012 International Women's Day Celbrations, Shape East is designing a new guided walking tour of the city centre aiming to show Cambridge's historic buildings through an entirely female
perspective. Designed as a booklet for free public use, the tour will combine history, architecture, poetry and photography. It is being launched in consultation form for the International Women's Day Celebration in March and finally in June, as part of the Folk museum's series of talks on the National Union of Women Workers.


Kettles Yard Project

Kettle's Yard Workshops

Shape East is supporting Kettle's Yard on their Completing Kettle's Yard Project. Through a recent Heritage Lottery Grant, Kettle's Yard are able to build a new education wing alongside their exhibition gallery. Shape East are supporting them in a series of education workshops with primary and secondary level young people, working with artists and guest professionals from the built environment to explore the history of the site, how to develop design ideas, architecture and positive placemaking.Please view the first workshop sessions below.
