Further Information

In 1989 Senior Partner Michael Morrison was appointed consultant architect to the National Gallery, the first task being to produce a masterplan for the redevelopment of the whole gallery, both the public and private areas. Over a twelve year period from 1989 2001 virtually every space in the gallery was reordered, reserviced and redecorated. Major work was completed to the air conditioning systems, the electrics and fire and security systems. The majority of the public galleries have been redecorated, relit and reserviced. Many have also been reroofed. In the Sainsbury wing Purcell Miller Tritton designed the micro-gallery (a touch-screen information room) and fitted out the public restaurant and behind the scenes we have provided picture storage and specialist archive facilities. Purcell Miller Tritton continue to work on the gallery with the reordering of the main entrance hall and the recreation of the historic decoration.
